Terms & Community Standard

Effective and last updated: September 12, 2026.

These Terms govern use of phatcatssl.com, Phat Cat's website accounts and forms, and participation in Phat Cat's venue-operated activities to the extent Phat Cat's controls them. By using this website, creating an account, submitting an application, subscribing to communications, or participating in a Phat Cat's event or service, you agree to these Terms and to the posted rules for the particular event or service. If you do not agree, do not use the affected service.

1. Independent Second Life venue

Phat Cat's is an independent venue and community operating in Second Life and is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or operated by Linden Research, Inc. or Linden Lab. Second Life itself is governed by Linden Lab's current Terms of Service, product policies, Community Standards, maturity rules, intellectual-property policies, and other applicable platform rules. Those rules continue to apply while you visit Phat Cat's inworld. If a Phat Cat's rule conflicts with a mandatory Linden Lab rule, the Linden Lab rule controls.

2. Eligibility, age and maturity restrictions

You may use Phat Cat's only if you are legally permitted to do so and meet the age and maturity requirements that apply to the relevant Second Life region, event, service, or content. Do not misrepresent your age, account status, identity, or eligibility. A person who is not eligible for a particular region or event may be refused access without creating any right to admission.

3. Accounts and account security

Information used to create a website account must be accurate enough for us to administer the account and contact you when reasonably necessary. You are responsible for protecting your password and access to your account. Do not share credentials, attempt to use another person's account, bypass access controls, probe staff-only systems, or attempt to obtain administrative, mail, database, stream, moderation, or other credentials that were not issued to you. Notify Phat Cat's promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.

Phat Cat's may suspend, restrict, or close a website account when reasonably necessary to protect the website, venue, residents, staff, merchants, performers, systems, or other users, or when the account is used in violation of these Terms. We may require additional verification before restoring access.

4. Community conduct

Phat Cat's is intended to be a welcoming ballroom, social, entertainment, and shopping environment. The following conduct is prohibited in Phat Cat's controlled spaces and services:

Context matters. Staff are expected to use judgment rather than manufacture violations from harmless social behavior, ordinary disagreement, quiet presence, newcomer mistakes, or someone declining to dance, flirt, tip, join a group, or participate in conversation.

5. Ballroom floor etiquette

Guests who would like to dance may stand along the perimeter of the dance floor while waiting or hoping to be asked to dance, or may choose to sit. Please do not stand idle on the active dance floor itself. The purpose of this rule is to keep the dancing area usable and visually clear, not to force non-dancers into seats.

6. Dress, event and operational rules

Some events may have dress, theme, maturity, capacity, performer, photography, recording, or other event-specific rules. Those rules must be stated or reasonably communicated. Staff should enforce them respectfully. Phat Cat's may change or end an event, alter a lineup, limit admission, close a region or area, or change operating procedures when reasonably necessary for safety, performance, platform compliance, staffing, technical reliability, or event quality.

7. Moderation, ejection and bans

Authorized managers and moderators may warn, mute, remove, eject, restrict, or ban a person from Phat Cat's controlled spaces when they reasonably believe doing so is necessary to enforce these Terms, protect others, stop disruption, comply with platform rules, or preserve safe operation. Immediate action may be taken without a prior warning when conduct is severe, dangerous, fraudulent, malicious, or technically disruptive.

Moderation is not a promise of perfect prevention. Phat Cat's does not guarantee that staff will observe every incident or that every dispute can be resolved to every participant's satisfaction. A person who believes a moderation action was based on a material factual mistake may use the contact page to request review. Filing a review request does not automatically suspend the action.

8. Private communications and resident privacy

Private IMs, private staff communications, application materials, incident details, and personal information should be treated as private. Do not republish private conversations, screenshots, personal data, or sensitive moderation material merely to embarrass, retaliate against, or expose another person. Limited disclosure may occur when reasonably necessary for moderation, safety, legal compliance, fraud prevention, investigation of abuse, or protection of Phat Cat's systems and users. Our handling of website personal information is described in the Privacy Policy.

9. Memberships and RomantiCats

A website membership or RomantiCats membership is a community feature, not a guarantee of employment, merchant space, performer booking, event admission, staff authority, special access, romantic matching, or preferential treatment. Membership may be suspended or removed for abuse, fraud, security concerns, or serious/repeated rule violations.

10. Employee, performer and merchant applications

Submitting an application does not create an employment relationship, contractor relationship, booking, tenancy, merchant placement, partnership, agency relationship, or promise of compensation. Any actual role, compensation, rental, booking, sponsorship, revenue share, or commercial arrangement requires separate approval and, when appropriate, separate written terms.

Applicants must provide materially accurate information. Phat Cat's may verify references, public portfolio information, Second Life identity information, availability, prior venue experience, or other information reasonably relevant to the role. Do not submit unnecessary real-world sensitive information such as government identification numbers, financial-account numbers, medical records, or passwords unless Phat Cat's specifically and lawfully requests it for a defined purpose.

11. Intellectual property and publicity

Performers, DJs, merchants, applicants, and other contributors are responsible for having the rights necessary for music, images, products, logos, text, recordings, streams, promotional materials, and other content they provide or use. Do not submit infringing, counterfeit, stolen, or deceptively branded material.

Providing a sample link, application attachment, promotional image, or similar material gives Phat Cat's only the limited permission reasonably necessary to review it for the requested purpose. Public promotion, reuse, recording rights, merchandising rights, or broader licenses must come from the applicable platform rights, the content owner's permission, or a separate agreement. Phat Cat's name, logo, staff status, and "official" endorsement may not be used to create a false impression of authorization.

12. Events, performers and availability

Schedules, performer listings, opening times, features, merchants, streams, SLURLs, and event details may change. Second Life outages, region limits, network problems, performer illness, staff availability, stream failures, platform changes, or other events outside Phat Cat's control may delay, alter, or cancel an event or service. Unless a separate written agreement states otherwise, public listings are informational and are not a guarantee that a particular performer, merchant, feature, or event will remain available.

13. Tips, Linden Dollars and payments

Tips are voluntary unless a clearly disclosed transaction, rental, purchase, ticket, or separate agreement states otherwise. Staff and performers may not use coercion, humiliation, false spiritual/social pressure, or misleading claims to obtain tips. If Phat Cat's later offers paid website transactions, the applicable price, refund, and payment terms must be disclosed at the point of transaction. The current public website does not ask visitors to enter payment-card numbers.

14. Website security and prohibited technical activity

You may not attempt to circumvent authentication, rate limits, permissions, CSRF protections, access controls, moderation tools, mail protections, network controls, or other security measures. You may not scan, exploit, inject code into, scrape at abusive volume, overload, reverse engineer for malicious purposes, or intentionally interfere with Phat Cat's website or infrastructure. Good-faith reports of suspected security problems should be sent privately through the contact page rather than exploited or publicly weaponized.

15. No warranty

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, the website, venue information, community features, event listings, and other services are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. Phat Cat's does not promise uninterrupted availability, error-free operation, compatibility with every viewer/device, continuous access to Second Life, a particular social outcome, a particular attendance level, or that another resident will behave appropriately.

16. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Phat Cat's and the people operating it will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, punitive, exemplary, or consequential damages arising from use of the public website or voluntary participation in the venue, including lost profits, lost opportunities, loss of virtual items, loss of access, reputational harm, or interruption caused by platform or network failures. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.

17. Responsibility for your conduct

You are responsible for your own unlawful conduct, rights violations, fraud, malicious technical activity, and material breaches of these Terms. To the extent permitted by law, you agree to be responsible for claims, losses, or costs caused by content or conduct for which you are legally responsible, including intellectual-property infringement or misuse of another person's information.

18. Changes, severability and no waiver

Phat Cat's may update these Terms as the venue, website, platform rules, or law changes. Material revisions will be posted here with an updated date. Continued use after the effective date of an update means the updated Terms apply to later use. If a provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions should continue to the extent permitted by law. Failure to enforce a rule in one situation does not permanently waive the rule.

19. Contact

Questions, policy concerns, security reports, moderation-review requests, and legal notices relating to this website may be sent through the contact page or to info@phatcatssl.com.

These Terms are an operational website and venue policy. They do not replace any separate employment, contractor, performer, merchant, rental, sponsorship, or other signed agreement, and they do not reduce rights that applicable law does not allow a contract to waive.
